This well-known and much loved oriental-looking small palm, valuable as a house plant due to its legendary tolerance of low light and abuse, has been popular for a hundred years or more. Slow growing to begin with, it picks up speed as it ages. Outdoors, plant it in shade for best appearance and don't let up on the watering. Great hedge plant that will succeed in nearly all warmer climates. Tolerates a few degrees of frost. This cultivar from Taiwan is a particularly robust strain that sports beautiful, glossy, leathery, more compact foliage than the common Chinese strain. (RPS.com)
