Comments and Curiosities
Conservation: Near threatened.
"It will be a pathetophyte (struggles) In Southern CA. This palm would do better on the coast than inland. It survives well and thrives anywhere South of Orlando in FL, and Bronseville Texas." (Kyle Wicomb)
Endemic to the small volcanic island of Aneityum in Vanuatu (New Hebrides) (also home to the very rare Carpoxylon macrospermum) where it grows in light, humid forest. It forms a slender trunk to about 20 m (66 ft.) tall, topped by a green crownshaft and a spreading crown of elegantly arching leaves with about 40 broad, erect or pendulous leaflets. It is very fast growing and a very rewarding palm for the humid tropics. (RPS.com) Editing by edric.
